Conventional perfume may smell amazing ( I’ve used my fair share of them) but that is something that I was able to toss pretty easily after digging deeper to learn what’s in our products. Did you know that companies do not have to disclose their “trade secrets” to you? The perfumes that we are spraying all over our bodies/ inhaling, can contain endocrine disruptors, carcinogens, skin irritants and environmental pollutants…unfortunately the standards in the industry are very poor.

An easy and cheap solution that could actually support your body is to make your own. I had a few friends over this past weekend to make perfume before Valentines Day. It was so fun! I loved how everyone was able to customize their scent, and take home a special blend that is unique to them. We used essential oils and witch hazel, ingredients that we can trust, and oils that support our different body systems.

When making your own perfume you have a few options. First, the more time consuming one: mix your essential oils in the bottle and let sit for 48 hours. Add alcohol (for ex: vodka, or tequila) and let the blend sit for one month to infuse. This one requires patience ;) The scent from the alcohol will fade and the blend will be ready to be used!

You can get these same vintage perfume bottles here. They were perfect as party favors, I thought the varying shapes and sizes were so beautiful!

What we chose to do ( so the girls could use their perfume straight away) was more simple. We added our oils to the bottle first, testing the scent and adjusting as needed. Then we added 2 parts water and 1 part witch hazel (alcohol free for immediate use) to the bottle. This recipe is from @caseyleighessentials. I did add a pinch of epsom salts to help mix the oils and water as well. The bottle will require a shake before use. The final products turned out beautifully. We had one that smelled like lavender, one that smelled like a popular brand of perfume, and mine smelled a lot like what I usually choose to diffuse. I am drawn to oils like abundance, orange, christmas spirit, and joy.

You can learn more about the oils that we used here.

I think it is important to choose scents that you are drawn to, but here are the most used ones from our perfumes:

Lavender

Frankincense

Orange

Sensation

Abundance

Bergamot

Here is the recipe for my perfume (the bottle I used is 15mls) :

5 drops sensation

4 drops of abundance

3 drops of orange

3 drops of Christmas spirit

4 drops of Believe

4 drops of Bergamot

So dreamy! I have been using it every day since. I absolutely love the smell and the witch hazel helps to keep the scent on your skin longer than just using oils alone.
