Travel diaries: week eight
This week we spent a few short days in Oregon and then the rest of our time in Washington. We drove along the coast, made sure to stop for fresh seafood and enjoyed the views the entire way.
Everywhere we went was sooo green, itβs just amazing to walk through these rainforests.
Our favorite place this entire week was the Olympic peninsula. What an incredible place, full of wildlife, beaches, rainforests, mountains, views of lakes and the ocean. It is unforgettable!
The BEST campsite we have had on our road trip however, was this location up on a ridgeline overlooking Olympic National park. It was listed in iOverlander as βridgelineβ and it was about a 20 min drive up a fire road (10 miles west of crescent lake). We arrived in the evening and all views were covered by a thick, cold fog. We woke up at 5am to the most beautiful sunrise- the fog had cleared and was moving quickly through the valley, it was absolutely stunning.
The hiking did not disappoint either, Mount Storm king is a challenging (well worth the effort), 4 mile round trip hike overlooking Crescent lake. We were shocked by the views from the top, even though we thought it would be beautiful, it definitely exceeded our expectations.
The hurricane ridge portion of Olympic is another crowd pleaser. There are easy walking trails with views that made us feel like we were the luckiest people on earth to be there. The weather was moody again which is such a treat, the fog and clouds are so dramatic!
We arenβt sure if this week could possibly be topped, but we still have more stops on our U.S. road trip and we have been wrong before when thinking we had seen the best ;)
