Channel Islands National Park

This weekend was a vacation. From work, from wifi, from our phones, and from everything that we normally give our attention to at home. 

We drove down highway 1  to Ventura, CA and boarded the ferry to Channel Islands National Park. The one hour and fifteen minute ride was smooth sailing and we pulled into a small protected area on Santa Cruz island. There was a park ranger waiting for us to give a quick "orientation." We were told where the campsite was, which animals we had to protect our food and packs from, and how to contact him for help if anything went wrong. 

After setting up camp we went for a beautiful hike to potato harbor, we had coastal views and gorgeous weather. We stopped for lunch at the most beautiful overview of the harbor and were surrounded by the sounds of nature. Waves on the shore, wind through the tall grass, and sea birds continuously climbing in the drafts. There was no one around and we truly appreciated this time, it seemed more like a retreat. We went on several smaller hikes, spent time down by the beach, and saw plenty of wildlife. We realized how slowly we were going, walking on the beach, hanging out at camp, true vacation style. 

We also booked a kayak tour and absolutely loved it! We had great conditions and a really knowledgeable guide who was a world traveler, someone who has always rejected corporate America. It's funny how many of these beautiful souls are placed in my path continuously. There are always signs if you're willing to see them. 

The island that we stayed on was rich with wildlife, we had such a good time exploring and observing nature at it's best. 

We are home safe, and grateful to have been a part of this beautiful protected land.
